No, it's not wrong to come alongside someone to be a good influence on that person, but I have a sneaking suspicion that as much as you want your motives to be pure, part of you hopes that through your influence eventually a relationship will develop. That's just human nature!  I think it would be a much better idea for you to spend time praying that God will bring godly men into his life to help steer him in the right direction. That will help you protect your heart, and if he does get serious about his faith, you'll know he did it for the right reasons (not just to impress you or make you happy).
