I am 17 years old and really want to be a writer when I grow up. I've read your books and they constantly inspire me to pursue God and His goals and hopes for me. I want to inspire people to live for God the way you do, and I was just wondering how you got where you are. Do you have any suggestions for me on how I could go about starting a career like you have in writing?
Thank you for your encouraging words! I get no greater pleasure out of writing than to hear that God is using these books to inspire girls to pursue Him. Seriously.

One of the greatest pieces of advice my college writing professor gave was this simple adage: "Writers write." If you love to write, do it--no matter what form or function your writing takes. Keep a journal, but don’t make it a log book (“Today I went to the beach…”) or fill it with just the mushy, boring feelings that morph from day to day (“Today I was so hurt because…”). Spend time describing the world and people around you through written words. Create concrete images. Play and experiment with words like you would a musical instrument.

Second piece of advice: take writing courses in college. If you already know you would like to make a career of writing, get the training. It's invaluable.

Lastly, always remember that your life is in God's hands. You may want to be a writer with all your heart, but He may know that the best thing for you is to be a missionary in Zimbabwe or a teacher in your hometown. Pursue your dreams, but always hold them loosely.

Best of luck, sis!

Love,
Jessie

Right now I feel so overloaded with college stuff as well as school and church. Any advice to make things less stressful?
I have no idea what I want to study in college, or what college to go to. I do have some time (I'm only a freshman), but I'm still scared. Also, I've been home schooled all my life, so I have no clue what it's like to be in a "real school". I've tryed praying about it, but it hasn't helped! Any advice?
I don't get homework. I mean, I understand why we have it, but why do they give us so much? And the harder the class is, the more load you get! Why can't we get practice without having four hours of homework every night? It's as if the school is saying that the only way we can succeed is by making school our life. What do you think?
Lately I have felt like my life has had an overload of stress. Some nights I come home and I just want to cry. Sometimes I don’t even know why. I’m a junior this year and am in all of the honor classes. Many of my teachers have been just driving me crazy! I feel like everyone’s putting pressure on me, saying that if I don’t pull off at least a B, I won’t get into a good college. I pray to God almost every night to help me deal with my teachers and to help me overcome my stress. I know God has a plan for me in the future, but what do I do right now?
My boyfriend and I have both just graduated high school, and are going to different colleges this fall. I have no idea how to make a long distance relationship work. We agreed that this is a relationship we really want to work on, but I'm worried that once he gets there, he's going to forget all about me. After all, he'll be surrounded by hot college girls out on the hunt for a college boyfriend, parties, and clubs. I know I sound so insecure and clingy and jealous, but I don't want to be! I'm really trying to surrender my worries to God, and to trust both God and my boyfriend, but it's really hard! What can I do to help my relationship with my boyfriend last through the distance and separation of college?
I’m a sophomore at Azusa Pacific University. I feel like I am not getting the full college experience because I don’t have a close group of friends. Most of my friends have or will be transferring because of the economy. I am considering transferring because, if I am this unhappy, maybe it is not the right place for me. I have prayed about it, but I don't know the clear answer of where He wants me to be. What you think I should do, Jessie?
How can I know God's plan for my life? I've always felt that God was leading me to go to medical school, but recently I've started seriously thinking about working with Doctors Without Borders. For some reason, it kind of feels like the thing I'm supposed to do. Could this be God speaking to me?
