I’m a sophomore at Azusa Pacific University. I feel like I am not getting the full college experience because I don’t have a close group of friends. Most of my friends have or will be transferring because of the economy. I am considering transferring because, if I am this unhappy, maybe it is not the right place for me. I have prayed about it, but I don't know the clear answer of where He wants me to be. What you think I should do, Jessie?
There were, if I recall, some really good reasons why you chose to go to Azusa. I'm pretty sure being socially happy wasn't at the top of the list. I'm not gonna lie—there can be some really lonely times at college! I definitely had my own seasons of loneliness during the four years I attended The Master's College. The good news is that they were just seasons. It sometimes took a few weeks, or maybe even a semester, but sooner or later the social scene would change and I'd find myself in a new group of friends. The trick was being willing to look outside myself to get involved in things I might not have otherwise gotten involved in. At different times during those four years, I was a jock(-ette), a groupie, a rock climber, an academic, a poet, a world traveler, and even tried a very short stint at theater. :-) More important than hobbies, though, is service. There's nothing like getting our eyes off of ourselves and onto those in need to not only change our perspective, but to truly change our hearts! Whether through APU or on your own, make time to serve at a soup kitchen, volunteer at a youth group, or do whatever you are passionate about. A happy byproduct of doing what the Lord already asks you to do: you might just make some new friends in the process.

So while people coming and going is par for the course at any college, don't let it get you down for good. I definitely wouldn't transfer just for the social life. You never know whether the next college would be any different. Do keep praying! But instead of asking Him, "Can I please leave?" (which was my prayer at times!), ask God to show you ways to become more engaged where you are. Ask Him to show you people who could use some encouragement, or to open doors to serve in some way you haven't thought of before. I hope you’ll find you can be “all there” soon.

Love
,

Jessie

Right now I feel so overloaded with college stuff as well as school and church. Any advice to make things less stressful?
I have no idea what I want to study in college, or what college to go to. I do have some time (I'm only a freshman), but I'm still scared. Also, I've been home schooled all my life, so I have no clue what it's like to be in a "real school". I've tryed praying about it, but it hasn't helped! Any advice?
I don't get homework. I mean, I understand why we have it, but why do they give us so much? And the harder the class is, the more load you get! Why can't we get practice without having four hours of homework every night? It's as if the school is saying that the only way we can succeed is by making school our life. What do you think?
Lately I have felt like my life has had an overload of stress. Some nights I come home and I just want to cry. Sometimes I don’t even know why. I’m a junior this year and am in all of the honor classes. Many of my teachers have been just driving me crazy! I feel like everyone’s putting pressure on me, saying that if I don’t pull off at least a B, I won’t get into a good college. I pray to God almost every night to help me deal with my teachers and to help me overcome my stress. I know God has a plan for me in the future, but what do I do right now?
I am 17 years old and really want to be a writer when I grow up. I've read your books and they constantly inspire me to pursue God and His goals and hopes for me. I want to inspire people to live for God the way you do, and I was just wondering how you got where you are. Do you have any suggestions for me on how I could go about starting a career like you have in writing?
My boyfriend and I have both just graduated high school, and are going to different colleges this fall. I have no idea how to make a long distance relationship work. We agreed that this is a relationship we really want to work on, but I'm worried that once he gets there, he's going to forget all about me. After all, he'll be surrounded by hot college girls out on the hunt for a college boyfriend, parties, and clubs. I know I sound so insecure and clingy and jealous, but I don't want to be! I'm really trying to surrender my worries to God, and to trust both God and my boyfriend, but it's really hard! What can I do to help my relationship with my boyfriend last through the distance and separation of college?
How can I know God's plan for my life? I've always felt that God was leading me to go to medical school, but recently I've started seriously thinking about working with Doctors Without Borders. For some reason, it kind of feels like the thing I'm supposed to do. Could this be God speaking to me?
